Two Lifers and a Two Things Meme

In my post “Loving the Pursuit” yesterday, I whined about the Tufted Titmouse that got away. Today I awoke with high hopes. I didn’t give up.

Lookit! Gotcha! This small bird is antsy and I just couldn't get closer. I am soooo satisfied...

My neighborhood is loaded with bird song. I took a nice walk this morning and enjoyed the views and warm breezes. Along the way I caught some Gold Finches snacking in a neighbor’s yard. Hmmm. I wondered why they haven’t visited my yard…

Oh, how I would love to have this view from my back porch…

I wanted to trespass and walk along the cart path. Prohibited! Those homes in the distance are way too large. We’re happy with our medium sized ranch home, thank you.

Well, guess who came to visit? As soon as I got home, a little Gold Finch was perched at the back of my yard. Made ma heart skip a beat! My once a month paycheck arrives in two weeks. I'm going to blow it on at least five more feeders. I only have one!

Hey Mare- your titmouse picture is awesome! I've never seen one :(

I'm envisioning you in your periwinkle sweats with the bleach stain- you're my kind of gal!

I'll be watching Idol with you- LOVE that show and I'm not afraid to admit it!

What would we do without Target?

Peace within- that's a good one- me too!

Congratulations on your Titmouse photo!! Woo Hoo for you!!!

Seems we've all got this common thread of being part German in blogsville so far. . .

Fresh Air - good one - I loves my fresh air too - keep my windows open at night in my bedroom even in the winter time!

OMG - I'm afraid to ask - what are Sloppy Spoon Tongue Kisses???? Have I been missing out on something very vital here? (I could Google this but it's more fun to ask)!

Pam, Sloppy Spoon Tongue Kisses are what you get when you are greeted by a Boston Terrier. Have you seen the size of their tongues????

Ohhhhhhhhhh, that is soooooo cute Mary!!!!! Yes, I've seen their big tongues! That definitely is an essential thing!

On my walk today with my dog Tipper (she is half border collie/half who knows)I saw a little tufted tit-mouse hopping around in a tree. They are very cute. But I don't carry my camera along, as Tipper would ruin any shot I try.
You have much patience to take photos of all those birds! You must not have your Bostons along on the walk.

I figured that all the birds from Canada except for sparrows, chickadees and juncos, are in your neck of the woods. Actually, there were goldfinches at a feeder at a farm I visited today. Your photos are great. I will have to try and find some of these birds when spring arrives here.

Donna, no my Bostons weren't with me today. They would ruin my walk, so I give them a separate walk sometimes but also make up for it by playing ball in the yard with them every day. My 45 minute walk with them would take over an hour, as their noses adhere to everything along the curb and mailboxes... Those Border Collies put my Bostons to shame in the obedience category, LOL!

I love the photos! The only birds that have stuck around during our Montana cold spell are the Canadian Geese. Come to think of it, I haven't seen them in the field for several days. I suppose they left us too. I'm really looking forward to spring and all the beautiful birds that come with it. Thanks for making my day!

Laurie,

We have had unseasonably very warm weather for the past month. Otherwise, I might not see as many birds. Tomorrow it will be 75 degrees! It's no wonder the Robins are everywhere...

Of course, add me to your roll. I am right now getting ready to add several to mine, including yours!

Ruth,

Hang in there. They will come. It's very warm here - in *JANUARY*!!!

Sloppy Spoon Tongue Kisses??? I don't think I even want to ask! Never mind you answered that already.

I like Oprah too, but I'm not home early enough to watch her.

Happy feeder shopping! Those goldfinches will like a thistle feeder. It took forever for me to get them at my feeders, and I still lose them to the neighbors in winter.

Okay. Susan's Unsolicited Feeder Advice:

1. Thistle feeder (tube or sock).
Will attract: Chickadees, all kinds of finches
2. Peanut feeder (wire mesh is good...lets the nuts dry out and the birds who can will cling)
Will attract: Chickadees, titmice, woodpeckers, STARLINGS
3. sunflower feeder (platform or hopper style) (and get a mix that has MOSTLY sunflower seeds, with a LITTLE BIT of millet, etc for the ground feeders like doves, juncos, HOUSE SPARROWS, cardinals, song sparrows, wrens in the winter, chipping and tree sparrows, you get the picture)
Will attract: Everyone loves sunflower seeds.
BONUS: All these feeders will attract Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, etc.
And if you don't clean up under the feedes, you will also attract mice and rats...which will attract red-tailed hawks, red-shouldered hawks, and owls at night.
You're welcome.
*I wish I could go with you to pick out feeders...I love to shop for them. We have TEN.

Mary,
Yak Herder Central is going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you want more ponds and trees in order to create a more hospitable home for yaks.

However, they will be happy with one pond and some bushes. So: You should use any extra money to buy yaks.

Perhaps you could get a home equity loan in order to buy a herd?

Looking forward to American Idol too, shamelessly.
