Millie and Johnny were lovers, in search of a new place to hang their hats.
“Millie! Check this place out! Hardwood flooring throughout!”
(There is a birdhouse on campus. I had a meeting to attend. Oh, well…I’ll be late. I didn’t call the meeting, anyway.)
"Wow. Let me IN, Johnny!"
"This is grand!"
"Where did she go?"
"Arrrrgh! Females! You can't live with them and you can't live without them! She's probably out shopping again."
Millie was out bargain shopping, just as Johnny thought.
(I am never late for anything. Ten minutes late to the meeting, I apologized profusely. But, today, I realize I have my priorities in order. There are some things in life you just can't put off for another day.)
I love the bluebird photos--and the accompanying love story. Your one shot almost has the same "mad" blue bird look that National Wildlife features. Lovely lovely photos.
OMG - Awesome photos Mary!!!!! And I love your story to go with it! I love it that you were late to your meeting to take these photos. Somehow it's just so much for satisfying, isn't it? I love the butt photo, too!
Bluebirds and finally capturing them with your camera in perfect light are what life's all about!! Meetings will always be happening. Bluebirds are magic.
Now, of course, I'm all worried that the house is mounted on a tree, and has no predator baffle. Bad coon juju. Any chance of putting up properly mounted houses nearby?
Get that tree baffled, Mary! As a woman who knows the heartache of watching beloved bluebirds try and fail, thanks to house sparrows and snakes, I am proud as HELL of you. Meeting, shmeeting. There be bluebirds in sunlight out here!
What a wonderful post! I giggled, I smiled, I oogled over the photos. You really captured the whole thing. Well worth being late for. I agree, your priorities very much in order.
After taking a long series of photos, I knew I would have enough to attach a little story to them. I had so much fun with this post. And I will talk to the grounds maintenance crew about a baffle!
Oh, bluebirds are such sweethearts! Thank you for posting these. We never see them in the city, but my parents have happily reported their presence "on the farm" in recent years.

So which are you sending me for Good Planets?
Love your story too.
If you need a new job, you are well on your way as a bird photographer! I doubt I would have made it into work at all if I had seen this. Great post!

Hi All,
After taking a long series of photos, I knew I would have enough to attach a little story to them. I had so much fun with this post. And I will talk to the grounds maintenance crew about a baffle!
So lovely - thank you... :)
Just the ticket to cheer me on my way today

I've just GOT to put up a bluebird nestbox soon.
