A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird has been spotted twice since last weekend.
Thrilled!
I’ve been wondering about them since I’ve been preoccupied and away from home so often.
The least I can do is to provide the freshest nectar for them while I'm away.
His gorget is stunning but I’m never satisfied until I see a female.
This evening at 7:45, just before sunset, I heard her.
She lowered herself close to me for a few seconds to check me out.
Perhaps she recognized or remembered a summer home?
“Welcome Home”, I whispered.
Slowly, she lowered herself to some nectar nearby.
After a few sips, she hovered near again and sipped from another feeder. Perched and very alert.
“Do you know me?”, I whispered.
“Now, go do what you do, Mama.”
I prefer to think she recognized me. That’s what I believe.

No one can capture a hummingbird as well as you, Mary--these are so beautiful!
By the way, when is the wedding? My daughter is getting married in less than 3 weeks, and I just found my dress a week ago:) I'm so stressed out I gave up on my diet weeks ago:)
Omigawd......your photos are wonderful! So glad I found you.
I am glad to know you talk to your hummers too. I just blogged ab out that strange habit today.
Here I am again. I was so overcome by your photos of the hummers that I forgot I nearly fainted at that exquisite pic of the lizard on the tree bark........a work of art for sure!!!!

Wonderful photographs! Looking forward to seeing them here... once they arrive.
Ooh, you're so lucky Mare! I had early hummers the last week in April last year, but this year it's still so freakin' cold I haven't even put my nectar feeders out yet. 60's predicted for Friday -- I'll get them ready to go out that day.
Beautiful!!!!
Lovely, Mary! Now, let the wedding photos begin!

Beautiful photos. Great shots of the hummingbird.
Mary, of course she recognized you! I am sure of it! I hope you are seeing and enjoying more hummers this summer. They only stopped by my house briefly but my sis has dozens at her house in CT! So...when will we be hearing from you again?
Mary, you wouldn't believe it: a real live lovebird flew into our front yard, then into our garage, the other day. We've kept it as a pet. I'll email you a photo of it.
Nice to read a blog .. which is true to its sense...

Mary,
Wow, I just saw your blog and your hummingbird photos are INCREDIBLE. I have tried to shoot them, and somewhat succeeded. I have a nature section in my blog, but after seeing your pics I am somewhat ashamed of mine.
I just peeked around the corner at your house and can't wait to visit again with a cup of tea.
I'm sure I'll be commenting more.
Barbara
P.S. You're invited to peek at my humming bird pictures if you'd like, I just hope you aren't disappointed !!
Mary, I'm very excited. For years I've been reading your blog about hummingbirds and enjoying your pictures of them and this year I finally got hummers of my own, and pictures! I've spent years planting and planting; flowers and vines and anything that will attract them and it's finally paid off. One pair even nested in a tree in my backyard!
I Just thought I'd share that with you, since your beautiful pictures and stories of hummers encouraged me.
I hope all is well with you.
Gaelen
Dear Gaelen,
It's good to hear from you. I hope you are well. I've been away too long! You need to send me photos of your hummingbirds. I'm telling you, they are addicting. Like Lo said above, it's a habit. I'm starting to sink into a low mood because two weeks ago I had dozens, now I have just a few... they are leaving now. It's time.
I'm OK - just very busy, too busy, and still wishing to find time for blogging.
Send me your photos. I know I love to share mine, too :D
