I am so thankful...

for a day off from work and to wake after sunrise.

I raised the bathroom blind very slowly and quietly,

wiping the sleep from my eyes.

I stood in the garden tub with my camera to see

an American Robin on the pond. What a delight.

And twenty more, I discovered.

I am thankful for surprises.

Cedar Waxwings joined the Robins for cocktails and a bath (upper left, click to enlarge).

Simple blessings through the bathroom window!

Quiet.

The dogs were still snoring under the covers.

Can a Robin be thankful?

100_9621

There was a Robin party at my house!

For her black leather nose pasted with rawhide, I’m thankful, and also for

my Gremlin.

I am thankful for a routine trip to the grocery store this morning and taking time to see

glorious color on the big pond.

We have a minuscule amount of time to live our lives.

Let’s also be thankful for…

our senses - to feel, hug, and touch others’ lives, somehow;

the emotions we possess for crying tears of joy, or anger and despair, and for belly laughs, while we are here;

the ability to make someone smile along the way and to love family and friends unconditionally;

those who are compassionate;

our gift of sight for the endless, and often overlooked, beauty on this God-given good earth.

I can’t get enough of it. I’m thankful for life.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Mary,

Dear Mary,
Oh my goodness! You are the Goddess of the Endless Summer! How fantastic, Robins and Cedar Waxwings! Wow! Your Mallard Duck photo is gorgeous! You don't need another camera, you are doing wonderfully with the one you have!
I am so very grateful I have met you. I refer to you as, "Mary, my dear friend in North Carolina", when I tell others about your birds and your drought. I laugh and I often cry and laugh some more when I come to visit you here.
Thank you for your wit and your care of nature.
Many blessings for Thanksgiving. May you and your loved ones have a fun day together. Enjoy your work break. The birds love you. Pats and hugs to pups.

It seems that your bathtub has the best view in America, Mary. You're kind enough to share the birds with us and we are thankful. We're even more grateful that you share your thoughts with us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is wonderful how "common" birds such as robins can look so glorious, bathing away.
Thank you for reminding us to be thankful for the small gifts we receive.

happy thanksgiving Mary.

you would never find that many European Robins together, they are right argumentative little fellows. Look as if butter wouldn't melt in there mouths though !

I could eat those robin photos with a spoon, they are soooo sweet. The light is amazing. Keep standing in that bathtub, dear; we're all loving it so much.

Poo on the guy who messed with your wonderful photos of the cadets.

It's so good to be home and able to catch up on your blog. I'm thankful for YOU tonight!

Beautifully poetic post, Mary. I think you've summed up how lots of us feel. Savor every moment - there are such wonderful things to see and do! How nice to see all those "spring" robins enjoying your spa.

P.S. How do you sneak out of bed with out the girls leaping up the moment you set your feet on the floor???? I can't fool Thea unless she is buried under the covers at the very foot of the bed!

Have a terrific weekend!

Mary, I do hope your Thanksgiving was all and more than you anticipated. I'm so glad you had a few days off. I am also enjoying my time off - a whole two weeks off - one week for the New Mexico trip, and the second week for the Thanksgiving holiday. Oh, how I will have to drag myself to work on Monday - but who wants to think about that now? Have a great weekend my friend!
