Unusual Names and Things

Marcel Marceau

My Mother loved Marcel Marceau and the romantic sound of his name.

Listening to the Bose radio alone tonight is quite alright. I’m not alone, really, because I can hear Chloe and Bella’s jingle and their chomping jaws on rawhides. Delilah takes requests on an evening romantic radio show. The music is loud in the house now but the tunes are soft and reflective…James Taylor’s, “You’ve Got a Friend”, “Lady in Red”, “You Look Wonderful Tonight”, and, “Love Shack” (yeah!)

Sherry at Q’s Corner invited me to participate in a middle name meme. Please click and browse through her artistic talent and see photos worth publishing.

I’ve never liked my middle name and had no intentions of participating in this meme! Throughout my life, everyone I knew named “Mary” had a sweet or saintly middle name attached to it, i.e. Mary Ann, Mary Beth, Mary Alice, Mary Lee, or Mary Lou. I was known as Mary Moore (first & last name) during elementary and high school and I withheld my middle name from everyone until today.

So, in honor of Marcel Marceau who left us on Sunday, September 23, 2007, I find it to be fitting that I honor his talent and my Mother, who chose this name for me. I’ll describe myself in one word for each letter of my middle name.

M – moody

A – artistic

R – rebellious

C – caring

E – empathetic

L – laughing at every given opportunity

Now the entire world knows that my Mom didn’t choose a traditional middle name for me. When I questioned her choice several times during my childhood years, she said, “Marcel Marceau is a famous mime and I like the sound of Marcel.”

I’m not French. I'm not a mime. I'm a female. But I love my Mom anyway.

So, there you have it.

I am named after a famous male French mime. Go ahead and laugh! I am... and now, after a few decades, I think I like it.

My husband’s obsession with the ugliest tree on earth:
He enjoyed himself alone at the nursery. He destroyed the tag and I don’t even know what it is. Sickly, but soft to touch!

Oh, Mary, I *love* your middle name! And I love the words you came up with to describe yourself with every letter. I didn't realize Marcel Marceau passed, may he rest in peace. Too many good people dying this year, it stinks.
I love staring at water patterns, too. I love all of your interesting photos. Hmm, that tree thing, I have an Italian friend that likes those things, too.

Mary your name just makes you all the more unique, interesting, and fun to be with. I applaud your name and your Mom.

Hi Mary,
I think Marcel is a lovely middle name...even though you have not liked it all these years.

P.S. I think your homely little pine tree looks like my white pines....they have very soft needles also. Some TLC will give that poor little tree a new lease on life now that it's come to live at your place.

Marcel is the coolest middle name ever. Really.

Dear Mary,
You have a beautiful middle name.
So romatic! You are caring and ever so empathic. This tribute to your mother and to Marcel Marceau shows the depth of your kindness and your graciousness.
Always you are fun, spreading laughter and smiles even in the mist of the worst drought ever in N.C. You care for the birds and the fish and the butterflies..the toads, the dogs and our hearts.
May rain come to you soon. May Autumn send cool refreshing air and may you find rest from chopping wood and carrying water.
Happy Harvest Moon.
Thank you for being my friend.
Sherry

Mary Marcel, I love your name! Sure a more feminine spelling might have been nice but your mom put some real thought into it. It's pretty!

Oh, and that tree is ugly. I hope it survives the drought though. Poor thing!

You are a treasure.

Mary--if you just concentrate on the SOUND of your middle name, it is lovely and melodic. Of course, we humans also know all the associations of words--is the name typically male or female, typical for our culture etc. And then we like our names or not.
You sound like my husband--his mother heard a family name (last name) and liked the sound. So that's what she named him--Carlin.
Anyway, he HATES his first name. So what did we do? Gave it to our son as his middle name!
BTW--I love the various photos, esp. the look in Bam's eyes as he nuzzles the pony-tail! Too funny.

You cutie - those photos from the recycle bin. Perfect, just perfect and in keeping with the "L" in Marcel. It's good to laugh. Thanks.

Big Hug,
Cathy

I like your middle name too, though Marcel Marceau always kinda creeped me out. (as he did again when I opened your blog and found him staring at me)

I went to school with a Marcella, I wonder if she got her name like you did??

Your middle name is neat - rather exotic! Very pretty pictures. I'm trying to figure out if the first one is a dead slug???? It looks gross. The little toadie is so cute - besides spiders, toads are favorites of mine. Our pugs also like to sniff people's hair! Sort of a weird "dog thing".

Nice collection of interesting photos.-Marcel sounds feminine-maybe you can do a post that includes a mime performance!

I love the name. Love the pics, too!

I got tagged as well, did not play, but you have inspired me...I have my grandmother's maiden name, and it is not so pretty.

I'll consider it...

You make me smile with Bam’s photo!

That last tree, of your husband's... looks like a cross between a {soft needled} pine and a palm. Someday when it's attained full height, you may have tour buses coming by, to show this *amazing hybrid* to gawking tourists! ,-)
