Sleeping Beauty

DSCF2298

She paused for a long, cool drink,

hopped on a hot rock,

DSCF2302

and closed her eyes

for a while.

The sun’s warmth

on a Spring afternoon,

the distant drone of a lawn mower,

DSCF2308

and a waterfall’s pattern of endless rhythm behind her

bubbling and uninterrupted,

put the girl into a deep slumber.

Ah, but I understand.

DSCF2320

I would not dare startle,

backing away

silently and slowly

I whispered

DSCF2326

“Peace be still.”

Lawn mowers? Yikes, we still have snow! What beautiful pictures you take, Mary! And how sweet of you to back away and let the cardinal take her nap.

She is having a bit of a rest before nesting....a spa day at Mary's perhaps.
Wonderful to see your post.
Happy Spring,

So sweet! I just hope she wasn't an easy target for the local raptors! (verification word: eadshist)

Good lord, dear. Do they just come to you? I'll bet they do. They do, don't they?

Oh, how endlessly sweet.
Perfect marriage of words and images.
Backing away from a creature at peace: the naturalist's challenge and triumph.
Love you.

Aw Mare, she's so sweet! I'm glad she felt comfortable enough at your day spa to relax AND that you were close by with your camera to capture these lovely shots.

Beautiful, and that you understood her need to bask if just for a moment, doubly so. You're a warm soul.
