Bird Fix

100_6058

With few birds to admire in my backyard for a week, I found a few bundles of joy today – baby Bluebirds, four of them, I think, on campus where I work. This is my first look at baby Bluebirds. I wish I were just two inches taller to get a better look and an accurate count! Sometimes I loathe being a shorty.

I should have been inside the windowless office taking care of my business and working as diligently as the Bluebirds do. They aren’t slackers. Even though I kept my distance, mother Bluebird was wary and waited on a post for a while before delivering her meal. Father Bluebird was bold and made his delivery without hesitation.

Only a ten minute outing, or maybe fifteen or thirty - I didn't worry about getting back to work all that much!

There are over 1,000 mealworms getting fat in my garage. I thought the Bluebirds might like them so I made a delivery this morning.

Bonus photos:

Enjoy a sample of a Boston Terrier’s facial expressions, ranging from a quiet, invitational bark to an out-of-control triple combo outburst – ROOO!, Yawn, Whine! Concentrate on the face.

Everyone should have a BT and Bluebirds. Agree?

Great pictures of the bluebirds. What fun it must be to watch them. I agree that every one should have dogs and bluebirds.

What a sweety you are to bring mealworms to the bluebirds. You have the biggest heart out there my dear.

Gosh!
You've got babies, too?
I feel so left out of the bird world.
Next thing you know, you'll be counting blowfly larva (like someone else we know!)

:-)

I most certainly agree Mary. Their (BTs) expressions are priceless.

I told my son I was going to get our Bostons a hula hoop after seeing how yours enjoy theirs.

Currently ours are favoring an old beat-up Frisbee. They are a couple of clowns. :o)

AMAZING! Bring a little stool next time. I'm a shorty, too, and that is my answer.

Seriously, that is some seriously cool action there. I wish I could take a break like that at work.

Try a compact mirror to see inside the nest, Mary. It works!

(You'll have to put most of your hand inside the box to get the angle right - be careful not to make them fledge too soon!)

Perfect shot of the baby bluebird..mouth open! I am so glad they nested in your boxes after you worked so hard to get them up.
You've just got to love a Boston's face!!

Wonderful shots of the baby bluebirds. Our bluebird pair is hanging around, but the dreaded House Finches pushed the eggs out of the nest boxes....the blighters!
I try and love all of creation, but those birds raise my blood pressure.

As always, love the doggie photos.

I loved seeing the nest up close and the baby's mouth - some camera you have, Mary!

The bluebirds are beautiful and I'm happy that you are able get some good photos. I enjoyed your previous blog about the grand dogs and the success with their training. With two assertive males in the same house that was a very smart thing to do. I love the pictures of Bam Bam staring into the pantry as if food will magically come to him!
Your BT bonus pictures are so funny. You should make a "flip book" of BT faces - that would be great!! And I'm glad that the girls' trip to the vet went well. That can be very trying.

Hi Mary,

Congrats on the bbird babies! I've been fortunate myself this spring in having bbirds nest in two of my boxes.

Great photos as always!

hey thats amazingly interesting and sweet... especially getting the meal worm part... I have a squirrel nest in my room now which i guess is not more than a week old.

You photos are extremely well taken, SLR?

Oh to see a blowfly larva-free nest now has its own special beauty. I've been away for a few weeks and I've missed your lovely world. I thought of you in those places I knew you would like -- gazing up at the acropolis, staring down into the creamy blue of the Aegean, rediscovering the subtle flavors of Istanbul. And none of it compares to what you have here. Such endless beauty you manifest. You are a lucky girl!

Your baby bluebird photos have me totally jealous, Mary!
What happens if there are too many mealworms? Could the baby birds be overfed and end up too chunky to take flight? [I know that's a weird question but I do wonder!]

Dear Mary,
I agree!
The Blue Birds are beyond beautiful. Sweet babies. Wow! Glad you took some outside time. I think it should be against the law for anyone to work in an office without a window. I would die I think. Bless you...for every hour without a window you get an hour outside!Tell them I said so. Not a slacker just a person who needs daylight!!!
Always love pics of the girls. What a face!
