Today we were blessed with a steady, soaking, soft rain. Oh, how we craved it! It’s chilly and we’re wearing coats but that's alright with me. It's only temporary. The outdoors are clean and the plants and flowers are upright, open, and drinking up the moisture.
So I ventured outside in my raincoat and looked for yellow to replace the sunshine.
It’s Friday. A sunny Sunday is ahead!
Perhaps I’m the only one in the neighborhood with thistle?
I found these near the culvert beyond the fence! Orphans.
Plenty of sunshine here!
I think the male Gold Finches are brighter than sunlight. Exotic.
Soon to burst into a ray of light on a dark day.
A single ray of light...beauty standing alone.
Ahhhh. There is so much to see on a dark day if you look for it.

You are invited!
Recently, Liza posted a photo of her new monitor and it gave me an idea... Wouldn’t it be fun to see where everyone creates their fabulous posts?
This is an invitation for YOU to send me one photo of the workspace where you record your journal and share your wonderful words and photos ~ the place where you sit and think before you click “publish”. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a mental picture of the blogging habitat of those with which you share your days?
1. Including yourself in the photo is optional.
2. If you include your monitor, display your home page!
3. I urge to you include a short narrative in your e-mail to me about your workspace. If you don’t include a narrative, you’re taking the risk on my comment about your workspace… :o)
4. I guess that two weeks should allow you enough time to tidy up your desk and shoot a photo to me. If you don’t want to bother tidying up, that’s OK, too! Due: May 16.
5. E-mail me: maryferr at carolina dot rr dot com
Give me a week or two after the deadline to post “Blogger Habitats”. Don’t be shy. I'll post reminders.

It might take me a wee bit longer than that to tidy up enough for a photo. Great idea though, count me in!
Sounds fun - a lot of tidying up is in order here. Where will I hide the piles of books and papers while I snap the pic?
Thanks for the extra sunshine, btw!
Laurie and Laura: no need to clean up. Let's face it, we all have a mess. I'm going natural.
Oh Mary, you are soooo bad!!! What a terrific challenge! I'm game. Give me a chance to get home and photograph my monitor.
This place here (Florida) doesn't count..LOL (using a wireless laptop here and I move it around too much).
Your yellow birds and blooms are sweet! Love the goldfinches. I started seeing them up north just before we left PA last week...feeding at the thistle socks I put out just for them.
Dear Mary,
So glad the rain came to you and your gardens. You needed it and a rest from the hose!
The Gold finches are outstanding!
You have lovely yellow flowers!
I will zip a photo to you soon.
Fun!
Sherry
What a fun idea!
I'm game. And I will be sure to get all my cages in the photo...rats, parakeets, dove...
Now I'm looking around and my eye is starting to twitch with all the mess.
Great idea, Mary! I was wondering why Dorothy stopped by to say hello at my site . . . Hi Dorothy! :)
Please note that I did not show my "before" pictures . . . too frightening!
Good luck everyone!
Ok, I'm having a senior moment:-) Do you buy thistle seeds? Oh, you're probably laughing your socks off right now. I'm with Laurie anf Laura, might have to tidy up just a bit, or make the pic a bit blurred so that it doesn't enlarge too clearly :-)
I've just send my "Saturday morning blogging" photo...eek! :c) How fun this will be to see everyone's "habitat" Mary! Love the goldfinch and the splash of yellow flowers.
What a fun idea! I'll do it but it'll take some major cleaning up before I send it. Good incentive!!
Hi Mary,
Sounds like fun. I have one that I posted a while back, but the space hasn't changed. Is it OK to use that?
The pictures of the birds, flowers and fish are just beautiful. Thanks for a day brightener!!
Susie, anything you send is OK! Don't forget to add a few words...
Hi Mary, Haven't visited for quite and while and have I missed alot! (Not feeling too good.) The Wildlife Sanctuary search is very interesting as well as your wonderful swallow nest. You have a true heart for living creatures. I also enjoyed all of the bird pictures and your thoughtful commentary. The koi are lovely and graceful and I thought we had the only dogs that drove us crazy with licking!! The idea of the monitor placement is excellent. I have a laptop, but always sit in the same place (my big, soft couch) when I use it. So after a bit of straightening I'll snap a photo and write a paragraph and send it off to you. I'm looking forward to seeing where everyone else sits. Thank you for the fun idea and the wonderful and pretty blog. Alyssa
Ohhh! That sounds like fun! It's so nice to get an invitation that doesn't require shopping:0) (This month has been crazy with weddings, baby showers, graduations etc.)
I have only one comment to make about today's post: I love your "YELLOW!
*Groan* homework.
Just kidding--sounds like a fun challenge. First, I will have to blow the dog hair off the keyboard, then move the coffee cup. Then make sure I am not in my nightgown (which I am sometimes in the morning while I catch up on blog reading!).
Thank goodness you were generous with your deadline.
I think this will be fun, too. I've already received two photos! Every few days, I'll post a reminder. Remember - don't redecorate before taking your photo. Let's be real.
Sounds like a good idea.-I'll have to scrape all that white-out off my computer screen from all the mistakes I've made.
Shall I at least shoo the cats off of the desk? ;-)
Oh Mary, your golden yellow theme is so charming, and you already have daylilies blooming! I wish a goldfinch would come to my garden - is there a plant that they like as well as seeds in feeders?
I'm not too sure about the desk and monitor thing - that might give the health department enough evidence to shut down my office.
Annie
Mary, I'm going to have to agree with Annie about not wanting to give the health department a reason to shut me down!
(And by the way, Annie, a surefire attractor for goldfinches are those nasty thistle plants with the barbed leaves that spring up in my yard. Goldfinches rely on thistle to feed their young and delay nesting until it's in bloom.)
Mary, your ray of sunshine post is the best!
O my goodness, so many wonderful photos! WOW! @r
Hi Mary,
I see that you use thistle seed to for the Goldfinches , ours are a little different but they still love the same seed (we call it Black Niger seed), they also love sunflower hearts. Great pictures.
Cheers Mark
Just great idea Mary! I will send to you my photo!
Love the pictures, all them are stunning!
Me again, Mary. By the way, what do you think about you post a picture of your books at "Mary's View"? I would be glad! Please, think about it! Hugs!
